Alaska Cruise

There's an old saying...give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile.

Prime example are RHS'69 alumni.

Example - someone yells "cruise!" and they're packing their bags.

This time it's Alaska. As Reunion Committee chair Vincent Yim says, at least it's the warm time of the year.

But then, there's the mosquitoes...

This is a rolling blog and is updated every day. Check back often for updates.

Describing itself as the “Salmon Capital of the World”, Ketchikan is well known for its fishing, beautiful scenery and rich Native culture.

Located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest – the largest rainforest in North America....it gets lots of rain!

With a population at the 2020 census of 8,192, it is the sixth-most populous city in the state

Ketchikan is named after Ketchikan Creek, which flows through the town.

So here they are in Ketchikan for a few hours. Just a short stop.

Some folks are out taking pictures of wild animals, shopping, eating.

What we get is a picture of a map hanging on the wall.

Enjoy downtown Ketchikan.

If you don't like that one, here's something else.

Ketchikan has the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show.

Not to be naggy, but the term lumberjack is primarily historical. Logger is used by workers in the 21st century.

When lumberjack is used, it usually refers to a logger from an earlier time before the advent of chainsaws, feller-bunchers and other modern logging equipment.

Regardless, Lumberjack is what it's called in Ketchikan and we're not arguing with some big guy with an axe.

We haven't talked about food yet today, so we must.

Like chowder? How's this for an early lunch - seafood, clam and crab chowder sampler.

That's all for one person we think.

Then work it off with a nice calm kayak tour here to there and back.

The usual waiting for the shuttle...

And, another part of the group and another lunch.

One of the great things about Ketchikan is the short walk (or crawl) from the town to the ship. It probably doesn't have an Uber anyway.

A nap and dinner await.
