Everybody seems to look back at the previous year as a new one rolls into place.

Why should we be different?

Webmaster Courtney Harington runs through what was blogged in 2019.

The last three months are really busy for the RHS'69 Reunion Committee. There's a lot of planned events happening for alumni, Thanksgiving and the family, Christmas shopping and New Year's planning.

Almost without fail they're too busy for a Christmas get together. So - hold it in January.

Committee Treasurer Lani Harrington invites you along.

.6 U.S. State Department travel advisory: Exercise increased caution in Hong Kong due to civil unrest.

.6 Since June 2019, large and small political demonstrations have taken place in various areas of the city. Some have resulted in violent confrontations between protesters and police.

.6 Ignoring all that, RHS'69 Reunion Committee chair Vincent Yim visited Hong Kong to see and learn about the part of his family he never met.

.6 Back home he removes his flak vest and tells of a wondrous trip.

In Hawaii we tend to do celebrations of life more than funerals. Having large groups of friends and "ohana" families, we like to share memories and love instead of grief.

Donna Miller was at one for the father of Yvonne Elliman - "Uncle Ross".

She shares a wonderful afternoon of love.

Helping where we can

Saturday, April 4, 2020

It wasn't long ago the call went out. America's doctors and nurses are overwhelmed fighting the coronavirus and they are running out of the equipment needed to protect themselves. Now, American people are doing what the government is not. We are producing masks for medical facilities. Not medical grade but still useful and needed.

Spearheaded by RHS'69 and some of our best friends at Kalani'69 and McKinley'69, we're answering the call to help.

One of the principal interests of any high school reunion committee is supporting its alma mater. Many RHS'69 Reunion Committee events are also fundraisers. Through the years committee events have raised tens of thousands of dollars to help the school and its students.

Recently we presented a check to RHS and donation committee chair Harold Fujii has the story.

.8 Sittin' Around

Sunday, June 14, 2020

The RHS'69 Reunion Committee has some big-time, great events each year. One of the most eagerly awaited is the Tomodachi Tours to Japan.

Booby Imoto (Kalani'69) and a honored member of the committee plans the itinerary for each one.

He's really missing Japan. So much he had to share that missing with everyone else in RHS'69 - and we share it with you.

<Sigh>

Sitting at home.

The beach calls...

Restaurants beckon...

Shopping is an urge...

Need to get out.

Nope. For three months we were lockdowned in Hawaii because of the pandemic.

It was worth it because we are safest state in the nation.

So what did we do? A selected few from RHS'69 tells us how they kept busy.

.8 Mr. Fix-It gets to Work

Saturday, July 18, 2020

When the pandemic lockdown happened, doing nothing around the house was not acceptable. The first month, most started to do what had to be done. After the first month, it was look for what else should be done.

Going into the third month, it was find reasons to get out and do something else. Here’s some stuff Reunion Committee chair Vincent Yim got done to make the lockdown time productive.

Yeah, he put everyone to shame.

Here we are - locked up again.

Some people broke the rules and we all gotta pay.

What to do...

How about you exercise the ol' brain and make a blog for one of the most popular school alumni sites in the country. (That's us)

Webmaster Courtney Harrington walks you down the path to fame, fortune and popularity.

The Year of the Rat

Thursday, February 20, 2020

While we are doing blogs on China, let's look at this year's Chinese calendar.

It's the Year of the Rat and there's so much to learn.

The RHS'69 website staff presents...

Christmas. A very different one from times past.

A difficult time for many, whether  it be economic or being alone.

But as RHS'69 Reunion Committee chair Vincent Yim reminds us, there is still much to embrace. and it willl get better.
