Neal and Yvonne - together

Friday, April 8, 2016

Two beloved singers were performing together last weekend. A large group of RHS'69 alumi made a night of it.

Harold Fujii picks up the story.

This past Saturday (4/2), twelve RHS '69 classmates truly enjoyed a magical night with Neil Sedaka and Yvonne Elliman (RHS'69) in concert.

Yvonne was the opening act and sang about 7 of her greatest hits and to tell you the truth, hearing Yvonne sing "I Don't Know How Love Him" from "Jesus Christ Superstar" was worth the price of admission.

Talk about a chicken skin moment.

Neil Sedaka sang later for around 1 1/2 hours with just a piano as his backup - hit after hit - he still got it and it still amazes me how much sound, how full it was with just his piano and him singing.

Yvonne sang "Bad Blood" with him - another worth the price of admission moment.

It all started off with all of us eating at "Asahi Grill" ...

It ended with us taking group pictures with Yvonne and being the last ones to leave.

Yvonne not only sounded great, she looked good.

Catching up with the news:  Yvonne still lives in Manoa, taking care of her parents who are in their 90s, just recently got married to one of her band members, has 2 kids from a previous marriage and had knee surgery this week.

Special thanks to Lisa (Auyoung) Chang with her Tom Moffat connections getting us great seats and everyone for an epic night of memories.

...and then walking over to the concert hall.
